Carissa is currently a web producer at KOLR10 News in Springfield, Missouri. She handles all of the social media for the station and the website. She has worked weekend mornings and weekday evening shifts.
June 2019 - July 2019
Carissa was an intern for Ozarks FOX AM, a lifestyle and talk show on KOLR10's sister station, Ozarks FOX. During her time as an intern, she made reporter packages for her own segment, "What's Trending." In her other segment, she taught the hosts gymnastics.
October 2017 - May 2020
Carissa started working at The Standard, Missouri State University's student ran newspaper, as a reporter for two years. She was appointed News Editor her junior year where she was in charge of all the reporters and editing their content every week. She also made video content called "The Standard Statement," where she sat at a desk and read that week's headlines.
Carissa was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. She found out she loved to write pretty early on, in elementary school. Carissa grew up knowing she wanted to become a writer someday but was not totally sure what kind of writer she wanted to be.
She was a cheerleader and a part of the speech and debate team from middle school through high school, which is when she found a love for performing in front of audiences and public speaking.
Thankfully, Carissa took a few creative writing classes and broadcasting classes in high school where she was able to find a career that put her two passions together. She attended Missouri State University where she learned if she wanted to succeed with a broadcast journalism degree, she would have to keep her head down and work hard.
Springfield, Missouri was a great starting place for Carissa's journey and it will forever hold a special place in her heart.
